Pets on Private Jets: Top Tips on Flying With Pets

All posts

Can I bring a pet on a private jet? That's a common question from discerning travellers who are also pet owners.

At Shy Aviation, we are aware of the importance of your pets. These furry family members, who are so dear to us, are often subject to problems in terms of air transport. However, unlike a commercial flight, private jets make travelling with your dog or cat effortless. Shy Aviation is one of the UK's most pet-friendly private jet charter companies, with experts on hand to ensure every animal enjoys a smooth flight. We make sure they are taken care of on board, allowing them to arrive at their destination without any distress.

However, when you charter a private jet and take your furry friends with you, you can face some requirements and rules. Here are our top tips for flying private with a pet, ensuring the comfort of your journey.

Comfort and Safety

MAKE THE JET YOUR PET'S HOME

To ensure the cleanliness of the aircraft, we recommend that our clients, accompanied by their dog or cat, bring a terry towel to protect the seats of the aircraft and anticipate any "accident" that may occur during the trip.

You can also take your pet's favourite toy to keep them amused and make them feel at home. Don't forget any medications they need or a supply of any favourite or diet-specific food if it may be hard to obtain at your destination.

KEEP THEM SAFE FROM DANGER

Unusual smells, sights, and sounds may alarm your pet—or make them curious and keen to explore! Either way, this can make them more likely to run off, even if they're usually calm. Dogs should have a sturdy lead or harness, and dogs and cats should have a collar with an identification tag that includes your contact details.

TRAVEL SICKNESS

If your pet suffers from travel sickness, ask your vet for advice before you travel. They may be able to prescribe medication to help. It's always best to avoid feeding your dog for a few hours before flying but make sure they have a bowl of water on the flight.

Country-Specific Requirements

You may be required to bring your pet's passport, depending on your destination. Moreover, your pets should be on top of their vaccination boosters because some stringent requirements regulate pet entries abroad. These apply to both commercial and private flights because they are specific to the country you are entering. The UK regulates pet travel very strictly, and you can find the list of UK regulations below.

UK PETS REQUIREMENTS

The list consists of five conditions that your pet should meet when entering the UK. If your pet doesn't meet all the conditions, it will not be considered for entry under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) and will, therefore, need to undergo quarantine.

1. Your pet is microchipped

2. Your pet is vaccinated against rabies

3. Your pet has received a blood test after the rabies vaccination

4. Six months have passed after the blood test

5. Your dog pets are treated for tick and Echinococcus (tapeworm). (The treatment must be administered by a veterinarian no less than 24 hours and no more than 48 hours before departure)

We know that furry friends are part of the family, and SHY makes every effort to ensure that their travel is as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. Just remember to provide us with all your pet's up-to-date documentation before travelling so we can make all arrangements for you.

EUROPEAN COUNTRIES REQUIREMENTS

Before boarding, you should know that your dog or cat must have an up-to-date passport and a microchip. This document allows you to prove the current vaccination status of your animals by a certified veterinarian. If you wish to travel to the following European countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, and Sweden - a deworming treatment will be required five days maximum before arrival in the territory.
